Taliban Officials Express Discontent Over Tehran’s Recognition of Opposition Leaders

The grand international farewell ceremony for Ayatollah Khamenei, the martyr leader of Iran who was killed in a terrorist attack orchestrated by the U.S. and Israel, has sparked discontent among certain Taliban officials…

Taliban Criticism of Tehran’s Official Protocols for Resistance Leaders

Mohammad Naeem Wardak, a senior official in the Taliban Foreign Ministry, has expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding the presence of opposing factions in Tehran, demanding explanations from the Islamic Republic’s officials. He characterized the formal recognition given to Ahmad Massoud (leader of the National Resistance Front) and Mohammad Mohaghegh (a prominent jihadist and political leader) as a significant concern.

In this context, Khairullah Shinwari, another official from the Foreign Ministry, described Tehran’s actions as contrary to the principles of good neighborliness; experts interpret these positions as an attempt by Kabul to interfere in Iran’s sovereign decisions and independent diplomatic policies. Notably, these objections arise even as a senior and official delegation from the Taliban, led by Mullah Baradar (the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs) and Amir Khan Muttaqi (the Foreign Minister), participated in the ceremony at Tehran’s invitation.

Ending Kabul’s Exclusivity and Welcoming National Movements

This authoritarian stance by Kabul’s officials has met with widespread backlash from political factions and public opinion in Afghanistan. Observers believe that the Taliban is exhibiting a form of power delusion, seeking to impose its will on the diplomatic protocols of other countries. Amidst this, the Green Trend of Afghanistan (Rasa) issued an official statement expressing sympathy with the people of Iran following the death of their esteemed leader and explicitly commending the Islamic Republic of Iran for its courageous decision to invite Ahmad Massoud and Mohammad Mohaghegh. This faction described Tehran’s action as a symbolic and strategic message and a strong response to the Taliban’s unilateral actions.

Emphasis on Ethnic Pluralism and Rejection of Unilateral Governance

In its statement, the Green Trend emphasized that Tehran’s assertive and diplomatic movement has once again demonstrated to the world that the reality of Afghanistan is one of diversity and pluralism, and no oppressive, single-ethnic group can claim to exclusively represent this land. The group criticized the current structure in Kabul as unpatriotic, stressing that solidarity among genuine political movements and ongoing regional support for pluralistic diversity will create the necessary foundation to overcome the current crisis and establish a legitimate system based on the will of the people.
