Ahmadullah, a resident of the Barmal district in Paktika Province, emphasized the growing need for fuel as the cold season arrives, but many are unable to acquire it. He stated, “As the cold weather sets in, the demand for fuel increases, yet economic challenges hinder our ability to purchase it.”

Poor Economic Conditions and Unemployment Make Life Difficult for Displaced Families

Farmanshah, a resident of Torkham, noted that unemployment resulting from the closure of trade routes has intensified economic difficulties for the populace. He added, “The price of firewood is between 30 to 35 Afghanis, but even finding this amount of money has become difficult for us.”

This year, the displacements have not only been caused by conflict but also by heavy rainfall and earthquakes, which have damaged shelters. Many families that have migrated to camps or other areas have yet to return to their homes.

The United Nations Human Settlements Program predicts that by 2026, approximately 4.2 million Afghans will need emergency shelter. Currently, families living in tents and temporary locations face increasing hardships, and vulnerable individuals are particularly at risk.
