In his conversation with the Financial Times, Hamid Karzai asserted that during his administration, Afghanistan’s land was never permitted to be utilized as a base against Iran. He highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations, which foster shared interests.

War Against Iran Would Have Devastating Effects

Karzai warned of potential conflicts with Iran, stating that such warfare could inflict significant damage on Afghanistan’s economy and regional stability. He emphasized, “We cannot allow our land to be used against them.”

Collaboration Between the Taliban and Opponents for Peace

The former leader referred to the need for internal reconciliation, noting that both the Taliban and its opponents are part of Afghanistan, and the country should not witness another cycle of war and displacement. Karzai added, “We seek a shared life for the people in this land.”

Criticism of Taliban Restrictions on Women

He also criticized the Taliban’s policies regarding women and girls, asserting that no positive evaluation of their actions can be made while girls remain barred from attending school.
