Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Trade Volumes Surge to $1.2 Billion

The State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan has reported that the volume of trade between the country and Afghanistan reached $1.2 billion in the first seven months of this year, making Afghanistan Uzbekistan’s fifth-largest trading partner.

Trade Between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Reaches $1.2 Billion

According to the Uzbekistan State Statistics Committee, trade between the country and Afghanistan increased to $1.2 billion in the first seven months of the current Christian calendar year. Afghanistan is now ranked as Uzbekistan’s fifth-largest trading partner, highlighting its growing importance to the Central Asian nation.

During this period, China, with $11.3 billion, Russia with $8.1 billion, Kazakhstan with $3.3 billion, and Turkey with $1.6 billion have been identified as Uzbekistan’s top four trading partners.

Expected 55% Increase in Trade

Economic relations between Kabul and Tashkent have been on the rise in recent years, and it is anticipated that the trade volume between the two countries will reach approximately $1.7 billion by 2025. This figure would represent a 55% increase compared to the previous year, reflecting positive developments in their relationship.

By 2025, the two countries also plan to sign a preferential trade agreement aimed at facilitating trade and reducing tariffs. This agreement is designed to remove commercial barriers and ease access to each other’s markets.

Uzbekistan’s Geographic Position and Its Impact

Given Uzbekistan’s location in the heart of Central Asia, it has become a key trade and transit route for landlocked Afghanistan. Access to the country’s transportation networks has significantly bolstered trade relations.
