Uzbekistan-Afghanistan Trade Grows to $1.2 Billion as Relations Strengthen

The Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan has reported that the country’s trade volume with Afghanistan reached $1.2 billion in the first seven months of this year, making Afghanistan Uzbekistan’s fifth largest trading partner.

Uzbekistan’s Trade with Afghanistan Reaches $1.2 Billion

According to the Uzbekistan Statistics Committee, trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan has increased to $1.2 billion in the first seven months of this year. Afghanistan now stands as Uzbekistan’s fifth largest trading partner, highlighting its significant role in the region.

During this period, Uzbekistan’s top four trading partners were China with $11.3 billion, Russia with $8.1 billion, Kazakhstan with $3.3 billion, and Turkey with $1.6 billion.

Projected 55% Increase in Trade

Economic relations between Kabul and Tashkent have seen an upward trend in recent years, with expectations that the trade volume between the two countries will reach approximately $1.7 billion by 2025. This figure represents a 55% increase compared to the previous year, reflecting positive developments in their relations.

In 2025, the two countries are also set to sign a preferential trade agreement aimed at facilitating trade and reducing tariffs. This agreement is designed to address trade barriers and improve access to each other’s markets.

Uzbekistan’s Geographical Position and Its Impacts

Given Uzbekistan’s geographical location in the heart of Central Asia, it has become a crucial trade and transit route for landlocked Afghanistan. Access to Uzbekistan’s transportation networks has significantly strengthened trade relations.
