Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack as a blatant crime against humanity and stressed the necessity of protecting the lives of residents. Concurrently, Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation in the previous government, labeled the event inhumane and urged responsible organizations to take serious and practical measures to identify and punish those involved in this brutal massacre.
Hanif Atmar, a former foreign minister, described the attack as an unforgivable crime against humanity, calling on the United Nations and human rights organizations to conduct a comprehensive and independent investigation into the incident. In this regard, Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s representative to the UN, emphasized to the organization’s special rapporteur on human rights that those committing such organized crimes must not escape justice and should be held accountable.
Taliban officials in Herat have also classified the incident as a terrorist attack. Ahmadullah Mujahed, head of the Taliban’s information and culture department in Herat, condemned the crime and stated that security forces have successfully detained a suspect in connection with the event, and investigations are ongoing.
