The diplomatic and strategic relations between Kabul and Doha brought senior officials from the Acting Government’s Embassy to a prominent official event in the Gulf region, once again placing them in the media spotlight. The country’s diplomatic representation in Qatar issued an official statement confirming that Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, the head of the political office and the acting ambassador, along with Military Attaché Hafiz Ihsanullah Ans, participated in the funeral and burial of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar.
During this significant ceremony, the Kabul delegation, representing the leadership and the people of Afghanistan, expressed their heartfelt condolences over the passing of the former Emir, affectionately known as the Father Emir, to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (the current Emir), the royal family, the government, and the Muslim population of Qatar. The Afghan diplomats acknowledged Qatar’s historical and positive role in facilitating political processes, hosting peace talks, and providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, while praying for the deceased’s elevated status with the Almighty. This acknowledgment resonates with recent statements made by Afghan politicians, illustrating the complex political landscape in the region, including the challenges outlined in the confrontation involving US policies.
The funeral of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was held with strict security measures and special royal ceremonies. This solemn and politically significant event was attended not only by leaders and senior military officials from Qatar but also by numerous kings, presidents, ambassadors, and representatives from various countries around the world, along with diplomatic elites, esteemed scholars from the Islamic world, delegates with full authority from international and regional organizations, and hundreds of journalists from local and international media outlets. The participation of the Kabul delegation in such a gathering signifies the ongoing close interactions between the two countries. These interactions are crucial, especially in light of the recent discontent expressed by Taliban officials regarding regional diplomatic dynamics.
