During a press briefing, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that Mr. Guterres is greatly alarmed by the new wave of conflict that has resulted in significant civilian casualties. According to reports verified by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), at least twenty-eight civilians have been killed and forty-nine injured following airstrikes by the Pakistani military in parts of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces. In contrast, Taliban officials in Kabul have released much higher figures, claiming that thirty-eight civilians, including women and children, have died, and over one hundred sixty-three others have sustained injuries, some of whom are in critical condition.
