Ariana News Agency: The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) said in a report that restrictions on women’s employment could cost the Afghan economy $ 1 billion.

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, citing information from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), estimates in a report that blocking women’s employment could soon cost the Afghan economy $ 1 billion.

According to the report, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has found that as a result of women being restricted from working, Afghanistan’s GDP is reduced by 5 percent.

Afghanistan’s gross domestic product in 2020 was about $ 20 billion. This amount is expected to decrease to $ 16 billion due to new developments in the country. Gross production is closely related to per capita income.

According to SIGAR, women made up more than 20 percent of the workforce before the fall of the previous government.
