A tragic incident in Bamyan province has escalated concerns over security and rule of law in Afghanistan, following the death of a young boy while he attempted to protect his 12-year-old sister from armed kidnappers.
Local sources reported that around midnight, four armed men stormed a home in the Ikhwalang area with the intention of abducting a 12-year-old girl. In a courageous act of defense, her brother, named Mohammad Amin, confronted the attackers. Tragically, despite his fierce resistance, he lost his life from gunfire.
According to local reports, Mohammad Amin was the only son of a struggling, impoverished family. This incident has not only placed an immense financial burden on his family but has also left them in deep agony over their loss.
Sources claim that the mastermind behind this crime had previously fled after the assassination of his wife during the Republic era. However, with the Taliban’s return to power, he has rejoined their ranks and continues to engage in violent activities in the region, exploiting his influence.
Local residents have called for a thorough investigation into the incident and the identification of those responsible. They emphasize the need for justice for Mohammad Amin’s family and express fears over the possibility of similar events occurring in the future. Furthermore, they allege that the Taliban district chief, Hikmat Hussain Mujahid, has played a role in these atrocities, accusing him of extortion and coercion. Rumors suggest that he has maintained his position through bribery of relevant officials. Additional concerns regarding the Taliban’s repressive tactics have also been raised, as surge in repressive tactics by Taliban agents in Bamiyan raises alarms.
