Prioritizing Tourist Safety

Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, addressed the concerns raised by some Western nations, stating that ensuring the safety of foreign guests and tourists is a top priority for the ministry.

He further emphasized that there is no cause for concern regarding kidnappings or security threats to foreign residents in Afghanistan, asserting that safety for all, particularly tourists, has been secured.

Warnings from the U.S. and European Countries

The remarks from the Taliban’s spokesperson followed travel advisories issued by the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany, which urged their citizens to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan.

These countries have cited the risk of terrorist attacks, arbitrary detentions, kidnappings, and armed conflicts as the main reasons for their warnings, categorizing Afghanistan as a high-risk travel destination.

Improved Security Since the Taliban’s Return

The Taliban government has reiterated its claim that security in Afghanistan has improved since they regained power in 2021, creating conditions conducive for economic activities, investment, and tourism.

Taliban officials state that extensive security measures implemented nationwide have led to a reduction in security threats, allowing residents and foreign nationals to feel more secure in their presence in Afghanistan.

Increase in Foreign Tourist Arrivals

The Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture previously announced that around 10,000 foreign tourists visited Afghanistan last Christian year.

According to the ministry, the growing number of tourists indicates an increased interest among foreign residents in exploring Afghanistan’s historical sites, cultural attractions, and natural landscapes; however, many Western countries continue to maintain their security warnings regarding travel to the country.
