Pakistan’s Prime Minister Urges Taliban to Combat Terrorism

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has once again urged the Taliban government to take action against active terrorist groups and ensure that Afghan territory is not used for planning and executing attacks against Pakistan.

Islamabad’s Renewed Request to the Taliban

In a speech delivered at a national workshop in Balochistan, the Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan shares a border of over 2,600 kilometers with Afghanistan and has repeatedly requested Taliban officials to act against terrorist groups.

He emphasized that Pakistan expects the Taliban government to put a stop to the activities of armed groups and the use of Afghan soil for conducting attacks against Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Claims Regarding Taliban’s Actions

Shahbaz Sharif asserted that the Taliban government has not effectively countered these groups so far.

In recent years, Pakistan has often accused the Taliban of harboring members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups. In response, the Taliban government has consistently denied these allegations, claiming that it will not allow Afghan territory to be used against any country.

New Accusations Against India

In another part of his remarks, the Prime Minister accused India of financially supporting terrorism in Pakistan, claiming that some destabilizing actions are carried out with backing from New Delhi.

India has repeatedly rejected such accusations and has accused Islamabad of fabricating baseless claims.

Shahbaz Sharif: Terrorism Has Respread

Shahbaz Sharif also noted that while Pakistan managed to control a significant portion of the terrorist threats by 2017 and 2018, this progress has since stalled, and terrorism has resurged as a result of a coordinated conspiracy.

These statements from the Prime Minister come amid escalating tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban government over security disagreements, particularly concerning the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
