Severe Weather Alert: Taliban Issues Flood Warning in 20 Afghan Provinces

The Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Weather Bureau has issued a warning about the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, flash floods, and strong winds with dust storms in 20 provinces of Afghanistan. This alert comes amid recent floods that have caused significant damage and loss of life in several regions.

20 Provinces at Risk of Rain and Floods

According to the bureau’s announcement, this weather system is expected to affect the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Nuristan, Panjshir, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Nangarhar, Kabul, Logar, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Bamyan, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, and Ghor on Saturday, August 25. The agency forecasts rainfall amounts between 10 to 35 millimeters in these areas, with a risk of flash floods in vulnerable regions.

Warning Following Recent Floods

This warning follows severe rainfalls and flooding in several Afghan provinces over recent days, which have resulted in extensive damage, destruction of homes, roads, farmlands, and other infrastructure.
