Taliban Assures Safety for Tourists Amid Western Travel Warnings

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has responded to security warnings from the United States and several European countries regarding travel to Afghanistan, asserting that security is stable across the country and that foreign residents and tourists are not facing threats. This statement comes despite ongoing warnings from Western nations about security risks in Afghanistan.

Taliban: Tourist Safety is a Priority

Abdul Mateen Qane, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stated in response to the warnings issued by Western countries that ensuring the safety of foreign guests and tourists is one of the ministry’s top priorities.

He stressed that there is no concern regarding kidnapping or security threats for foreign residents in Afghanistan and that the safety of all individuals, particularly tourists, is assured.

US and European Countries Warn Against Travel to Afghanistan

These remarks from the Taliban’s Interior Ministry came after the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany advised their citizens to avoid traveling to Afghanistan.

These countries have cited the risk of terrorist attacks, arbitrary detentions, kidnappings, and armed conflicts as key reasons for issuing these travel advisories, classifying Afghanistan as a high-risk destination for travelers.

Taliban: Security in Afghanistan has Improved

The Taliban government has reiterated that since their return to power in 2021, the security situation in Afghanistan has improved, creating conditions conducive to economic activities, investment, and tourism.

Taliban officials claim that extensive security measures across the country have decreased security threats, allowing both residents and foreign nationals to feel more secure while in Afghanistan.

Taliban Reports Increased Foreign Tourist Arrival

The Taliban Ministry of Information and Culture had previously announced that around 10,000 foreign tourists visited Afghanistan in the past Christian year.

According to the ministry, the increase in tourist numbers reflects a growing interest among foreigners to explore Afghanistan’s historical sites, cultural attractions, and natural beauty; however, many Western countries continue to maintain their security advisories regarding travel to the country.
