The memorial service for the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, commenced at Tehran’s Mosalla with the attendance of numerous foreign political dignitaries, diplomatic envoys, and military commanders allied with Iran. Organizers have noted that this event is regarded as one of the largest diplomatic gatherings in Iran in recent years…
According to statistics released by the event organizers, at least eight heads of state, twelve parliamentary leaders, and dozens of official envoys including foreign ministers and ambassadors participated in the ceremony. Notably, rival and oppositional political factions from Afghanistan were simultaneously present in Tehran. Reports indicate that Ahmad Massoud (leader of the National Resistance Front), Mohammad Mohaqeq (a prominent political figure), a panel of Shia scholars from Kabul, members of the Fatemiyoun Brigade, and an official delegation representing the Taliban government all attended the event together.
Event officials have confirmed that representatives from NATO member countries and Western governments, which have supported Israel during recent regional tensions, were not invited to this ceremony. Conversely, high-ranking commanders and representatives from armed and political groups supported by Iran from Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, along with religious figures from Pakistan and certain Arab nations, were present at Tehran’s Mosalla.
As per the announced timetable, public mourning ceremonies will begin tomorrow in Tehran, after which the remains will be transferred to Qom. Following requests from certain religious organizations in Iraq, the body of Ayatollah Khamenei is also set to be taken to the cities of Najaf and Karbala for additional mourning. Ultimately, the burial will take place in Mashhad. Iranian state media anticipate that due to the influx of foreign pilgrims, this mourning procession could witness an extensive turnout. Observers predict that with the anticipated crowd size, this event may become the largest funeral in history.
