The U.S. Department of State has stated that the Taliban has failed to ensure stability in Afghanistan and to uphold its commitments in the fight against terrorism.
In a recent statement, the U.S. Department of State emphasized that since regaining power, the Taliban has not succeeded in establishing stability in Afghanistan. The department also raised concerns regarding the Taliban’s lack of adherence to anti-terrorism commitments as a significant issue.
The U.S. has voiced harsh criticisms regarding the Taliban’s social policies, particularly their impact on women and girls, condemning the oppressive conditions created under their governance.
The State Department also asserted that Afghanistan must become a country where terrorists cannot find refuge and should adhere to its international obligations.
The department criticized the chaotic manner in which American forces withdrew during President Joe Biden’s administration, describing the situation as “disorderly.”
In a message marking the fifth anniversary of their return to power, the Taliban government urged the international community to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty and interests. The Taliban’s foreign minister also rejected the idea of a return of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, stating that no Afghan would accept foreign military presence in their country.
