On the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding its refusal to recognize the group until it acts in accordance with human rights obligations.
The ministry stressed the urgent need for an international mechanism to investigate human rights violations and potential crimes in Afghanistan, particularly highlighting the existing restrictions on women and girls.
France has underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of women and girls in education and other areas, urging that these rights must not be violated in Afghanistan.
The ministry listed combating terrorism as another obligation that the Taliban must fulfill to enhance its relations with the international community.
This statement comes as the Taliban government requested that nations around the world respect the sovereignty and interests of Afghanistan in a message commemorating the fifth anniversary of their return to power.
