During a recent Security Council meeting, Vassily Nebenzia emphasized that the threat of terrorism in Afghanistan remains a significant concern. He pointed out that groups like ISIS and its affiliates continue to operate in the region. The Russian representative remarked, “This threat has become increasingly complex and adaptable.”
Nebenzia also noted that ISIS-Khorasan is recognized as a serious threat to Afghanistan’s security. He stressed the importance of addressing the issue of foreign terrorists who may transfer their experiences from one region to another.
The Russian representative underscored that no single country can combat terrorism alone, insisting on the essential need for information sharing, security coordination, and judicial cooperation among nations. He warned that the fight against terrorism should not be influenced by geopolitical differences, stating that “diminishing collaboration in this area poses a serious risk to human lives.”
Nebenzia also referred to the establishment of international mechanisms to combat terrorism following the September 11 attacks, advocating for the strengthening and preservation of these frameworks. He affirmed Russia’s commitment to seeking specialized and non-political cooperation based on principles of international law.
