Reports indicate that the Taliban is constructing a significant center for Al-Qaeda, disguised as a school in the Charso District of Ghor Province. This site is strategically located at a mountainous junction connecting northern, central, and western Afghanistan. High-ranking Taliban officials, including Mullah Baradar and the governors of Balkh and Samangan, have reportedly visited this location several times, and a senior Al-Qaeda member also inspected the site about a month ago.
Local sources in Ghor Province report that senior Taliban officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the governors of Balkh and Samangan, and other high-ranking figures have repeatedly visited the construction site of this center, indicating direct governmental support for the project. Additionally, it has been reported that a senior Al-Qaeda member conducted a visit to the center under construction in Charso District approximately a month ago.
The Charso District was chosen for the establishment of such a center due to its geographical features. This district possesses a strategic mountainous position, situated at a crossroads between northern, central, and western Afghanistan. Local sources have also noted that heavy machinery is being transported to the area to expedite the construction of the center. These reports could significantly increase international pressure on the Taliban regarding their commitments not to allow Afghan territory to become a haven for terrorists.
