The police in Şırnak, southeastern Turkey, have arrested 12 Afghan citizens on charges of illegal entry, along with two Turkish nationals accused of facilitating their unlawful transport.
The Şırnak police have revealed that during a recent operation, they identified and apprehended 12 Afghan nationals for unlawfully entering Turkey. These arrests are part of a broader strategy aimed at curbing illegal migration and residence in border provinces.
In this context, Turkish security officials reported the detention of two citizens for human trafficking and the illegal transfer of these asylum seekers. Additionally, local authorities have imposed a cumulative administrative fine of $13,000 on the offenders and the detained migrants involved in this case.
Official statistics released by Turkey’s immigration office indicate that in the first six months of the current year, 19,574 Afghan refugees were detained across various parts of the country for lacking residence documents and for illegal entry. According to this data, Afghan nationals accounted for the highest rate of immigration-related arrests among foreign nationals in Turkey.
