Rejection of Asylum Applications for Over 50,000 Afghans in Australia

Australian media reports that approximately 200,000 Afghans submitted applications to relocate to Australia following the rise of the Taliban to power in 2021.

The Australian government has officially declined the asylum requests of 54,000 Afghans.

Media outlets in Australia, including SBS, have covered the efforts of a collective of Afghan activists residing in Australia, urging the Australian government to reconsider its decisions on the denied applications.

According to the report, the Australian government has granted visas to 12,000 Afghans within the past two years.

Critics contend that the Australian government has not extended visa offers to Afghan associates who have collaborated with them over the previous two decades.
