In the wake of the severe human and financial losses caused by the recent floods in Nuristan province, Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting chief of Afghanistan’s UN mission, has urged specialized agencies within the organization and international aid bodies to urgently enhance their life-saving assistance to the affected areas.

In a message, the acting head expressed profound condolences to the grieving families and those affected by this tragic event, while also commending the swift and round-the-clock efforts of humanitarian organizations to assess immediate needs and provide urgent responses. He emphasized that the situation in flood-affected areas requires a coordinated and broader effort from the international community to prevent a larger humanitarian disaster.

Parun; The Epicenter of the Disaster and Heavy Losses

Field reports indicate that the highest levels of destruction, fatalities, and financial losses have been recorded in Parun, the capital of Nuristan province. According to confirmed statistics, at least twenty-three people have lost their lives, and eighty others have been injured, while the fate of nearly a hundred local residents remains uncertain, with efforts to locate the missing ongoing.
