U.S. Diplomatic Shift Towards Iran Needed: Lessons from Afghanistan

An analyst from Eurasia Review emphasizes the necessity of U.S. diplomacy with Iran, drawing crucial lessons from Afghanistan. He calls for Congressional support for civilian-centered negotiations.

Diplomacy Over War: Lessons from Afghanistan

Miladulhaq Ahmadzai, CEO of Taleam Systems, stresses in his analytical note for Eurasia Review that the U.S. Congress should learn from the 20 years of conflict in Afghanistan and pivot towards dialogue and diplomacy with Iran instead of escalating tensions.

He argues that achieving sustainable peace between the U.S. and Iran is not only a desirable goal but also a vital necessity for regional and global stability. Ahmadzai highlights the significant human, economic, and political costs of the Afghan war, insisting that only sustainable solutions can be found through political and diplomatic engagement, as military tools cannot resolve long-term challenges and deadlocks.

Warning Against the Consequences of Wars

Ahmadzai also warns about the far-reaching consequences of wars and humanitarian crises. He points to the economic disruptions and psychological damage caused by conflicts, urging Congress to back civilian-centered diplomacy. This diplomatic approach should incorporate the views of Iran, regional allies, and the United Nations.

According to him, any meaningful peace process requires the involvement of all stakeholders in negotiations. He emphasizes that the U.S. Congress can play a significant role in advancing these discussions by leveraging the experiences gained from the situation in Afghanistan.
