Herat Honors the Legacy of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari on His 1,051st Birthday

In celebration of the 1,051st anniversary of the birth of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, a prominent Sufi figure known as the Sage of Herat, a grand ceremony took place in Herat. Attended by government officials, cultural diplomats from neighboring countries and Turkey, as well as scholars and cultural figures, speakers hailed Khwaja Abdullah as not only a notable mystic but also a master of Hadith and a great interpreter whose ideas transcend geographical boundaries and inspire the Islamic world.

A Spiritual Gathering in Herat

Herat once again hosted a spiritual gathering honoring one of the greatest geniuses in Islamic history and culture. The ceremony to celebrate the 1,051st anniversary of Sheikh-ul-Islam Khwaja Abdullah Ansari was held with particular grandeur at the Ministry of Information and Culture, attended by custodians of the shrine and cultural diplomats from Herat, including representatives from neighboring countries and the Republic of Turkey. Participants regarded Khwaja Abdullah as a steadfast pillar of the region’s cultural identity, a figure who connects the name of Herat with lofty concepts of ethics and mysticism in the world.

Khwaja Abdullah, A Shared Legacy of the Islamic World

Mir Mohammad Arham, the custodian of the shrine, emphasized that Khwaja Abdullah Ansari’s persona is not confined to any specific geography. He noted that invaluable works such as the ‘Manajat-nameh’ and ‘Tabaqat al-Sufiyyah’ have long served as sources of inspiration for seekers of knowledge across the Islamic realms. Additionally, Haidar Hamid, a researcher and poet, highlighted the lesser-known scientific aspects of Khwaja’s life, reminding the audience that he was also a leader in the field of Hadith, embodying prophetic traditions in his everyday life.

Officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture in Herat, including Mawlawi Abdul Matin Adil, proudly recalled the historic legacy of this city. He reiterated that the prestige of Herat owes much to the presence of great figures such as Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, Imam Fakhr al-Razi, Mawlana Jami, and Wa’ez Kashifi. According to him, even though centuries have passed since the physical departure of these luminaries, their philosophical ideas and ethical teachings continue to guide society on the path of spirituality and humanity.

In another segment of the event, Sheikh Fazl al-Rahman Ansari, the imam of the Jami Mosque in Gazargah, stressed the necessity for the younger generation to become acquainted with national and religious luminaries. He noted that Khwaja Abdullah exemplifies a perfect blend of knowledge, ethics, and spirituality, which can meet the spiritual needs of contemporary humanity. At the conclusion of the gathering, participants called for the continuation of cultural programs to better introduce historic figures and preserve Afghanistan’s invaluable spiritual heritage.
