The spokesperson for the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, marked the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Doha Agreement by emphasizing that the agreement was only for one phase and has no relation to the current governance of Afghanistan. He also stated that the United States has not yet fulfilled some of its commitments according to the Doha Agreement.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, clarified on the fifth anniversary of the Doha Agreement that this agreement was only for a specific time period and the current governance of Afghanistan has no connection to it. According to Mujahid, the Afghan ruling authorities have not taken any action to implement the agreement, nor are they proceeding according to it.
He further added that the United States has not yet implemented some of its commitments as per the Doha Agreement. The Taliban spokesperson also emphasized that the Taliban have fully implemented the contents of the Doha Agreement.
Mohammad Abdul Kabir, the former political deputy of the Taliban’s prime minister, had also stated a few months ago that there was no secret deal in the Doha Agreement. He added that the agreement did not include any agreement to form a coalition government, and the Taliban did not accept any demands from the other side.
These statements come in the wake of the Doha Agreement, which was signed between the Taliban and the U.S. in February 2020, with hopes for establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan. However, five years later, the situation in Afghanistan has changed significantly, with conflicts and tensions continuing.
Following the Taliban’s statements, questions remain about the consequences of the agreement and the unfinished commitments. International experts and analysts remain concerned about human rights, freedoms, and the political future of Afghanistan.
