The Rich Organization has announced that by 2025, approximately 3.1 million Afghans will be internally displaced. These families are suffering from poverty and a lack of access to clean water.

In a recent report, the Rich Organization highlighted that by 2025, around 3.1 million individuals in Afghanistan are expected to be enduring internal displacement. The organization identified various factors, including economic pressures, food insecurity, and natural disasters, as the primary causes of this displacement.

Severe Challenges Facing Displaced Families

Families who have been displaced in different provinces, such as Baghlan and Paktika, are confronting serious challenges, including a lack of access to essential services and financial difficulties. Munir, the head of one such family in Baghlan, stated: “Our situation is extremely difficult. Recent floods have destroyed many homes, and gastrointestinal diseases are rising among children.” He added that some able families have returned to their houses, yet many remain in tents due to financial constraints.

Impact of Conflict and Displacement

Ahmadullah, another displaced individual in the Barmal district of Paktika, noted that many locals have been forced to leave due to clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan. He said: “Our people are grappling with numerous challenges. Some have been displaced by war and are living in tents. The government needs to create job opportunities to help us escape this situation.” These families, hindered by financial incapacity, are unable to return to their original areas and are enduring harsh conditions.

Concerns for the Future of Displaced Individuals

The Rich Organization’s report warns that, following a decrease in conflicts since 2021, economic pressures and food insecurity have become the leading causes of internal displacement. The organization also pointed to heavy rainfall, floods, and earthquakes, stressing that as temperatures drop, the situation will worsen for families living in tents. Reports indicate that most of these relocations occur within the same provinces, as individuals tend to migrate less frequently from their social connections.
