Officials from the Taliban government have stated that late last night, the Pakistani military conducted airstrikes in the provinces of Kunar and Paktika. According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, these strikes targeted civilians, resulting in three deaths and four injuries in Kunar, including women among the wounded.

Pakistan’s Claims on the Objectives of the Attacks

Mujahid also noted that in Paktika, one house and one shop were damaged, but no casualties occurred from this assault. Meanwhile, the Pakistani Ministry of Information has claimed that these strikes targeted suspicious locations linked to armed opposition groups, resulting in 28 deaths.

Reactions to Pakistan’s Airstrikes

Mujahid condemned these strikes as an “invasion” of Afghan territory, declaring that they would respond appropriately. Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also strongly condemned these attacks on his social media, characterizing them as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty. He attributed current security issues in Pakistan to its misguided policies towards Afghanistan and urged Islamabad to reassess its strategies.
