Pakistan’s Airstrikes in Afghanistan Spark Outrage and Claims of Civilian Casualties

Pakistani military airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Paktika provinces have reportedly resulted in three deaths and four injuries, according to Taliban sources. These attacks have prompted strong reactions from Afghan officials and experts.

Airstrikes on Kunar and Paktika

Officials from the Taliban government have reported that last night, the Pakistani army conducted airstrikes in Kunar and Paktika provinces. Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, claimed that the attacks targeted civilians, leading to three fatalities in Kunar and four injuries, which included women among the wounded.

Pakistan’s Claims Regarding Attack Objectives

Mujahid also noted that in Paktika, one house and a shop were damaged; however, he stated that there were no casualties from that assault. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information announced that the strikes targeted suspected sites associated with armed opposition groups, resulting in the deaths of 28 individuals.

Reactions to Pakistan’s Airstrikes

Mujahid condemned the airstrikes, labeling them as an “invasion” of Afghan territory, and promised a suitable response. Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also strongly criticized these attacks on his X account, calling them a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty. He attributed Pakistan’s current security challenges to its misguided policies towards Afghanistan and urged Islamabad to reassess its approach.
