The United Nations Women’s Department reports a significant decline in the mental health of women in Afghanistan, with surveys indicating that seven out of ten Afghan women are suffering from mental and emotional distress.
The report, released in April, reveals that 70% of the women surveyed reported experiencing severe anxiety, isolation, and depression.
Additionally, multiple surveys found that between 73% to 91% of female respondents rated their mental health as poor or significantly deteriorated, highlighting a troubling trend in the mental well-being of Afghan women.
