TAPI Gas Pipeline Construction in Herat Nears Completion

The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline in Herat has reached 80% completion, with 150.3 kilometers of the total 153 kilometers fully prepared. The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has also started designing the gas distribution network.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced that the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline in Herat is advancing rapidly. A recent report indicates that 150.3 kilometers of the total 153 kilometers of the pipeline route are ready, which equates to 98% completion of the route preparation.

Details of the TAPI Project Progress

The report reveals that 134.2 kilometers of the roads associated with this project have also been constructed and completed. In the welding and piping sections, approximately 122.3 kilometers of pipeline have been installed, reflecting an 80% progress in that area. Additionally, 71.5 kilometers of the pipeline have been laid underground.

Gas Distribution Network Design in Herat

Moreover, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has stated that the design of the gas distribution network in Herat is underway alongside the pipeline construction, with expectations for work on the network to commence soon.

The Significance of the TAPI Pipeline Project

The TAPI gas pipeline project, which aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India, is considered one of the most significant energy transfer initiatives in the region. The pipeline spans a total length of 1,814 kilometers, with 774 kilometers traversing Afghan territory. According to plans, approximately 33 billion cubic meters of gas will be transported through this pipeline annually, and Afghanistan anticipates generating $400 million in transit revenues from this project, with a portion of the gas allocated for use within the country.
