Police Discover 614 Kilograms of Opium in an Ambulance

The drug enforcement officials in Takhar province reported the discovery and confiscation of 614 kilograms of opium hidden in a private ambulance in the vicinity of Taloqan, the provincial capital. According to Naqibullah Masror, the head of Media and Public Relations at the Takhar Police headquarters, the narcotics were loaded in Badakhshan before being intercepted.

Thanks to swift action by security forces, the drug shipment was successfully identified and seized. The traffickers had aimed to transport the drugs to Taloqan, but their plans were thwarted by law enforcement’s intervention.

New Drug Trafficking Methods

Naqibullah Masror noted that the exploitation of emergency and medical vehicles for drug trafficking has become a common tactic among smugglers. He referred to an incident two weeks ago when police uncovered another 420 kilograms of opium concealed in a different ambulance within the province.

He emphasized that this method of transportation is gaining popularity due to its ease of movement and the indistinguishability from legitimate emergency vehicles. Such practices pose a significant threat to public health and require urgent attention and decisive action from security authorities.
