The Taliban’s Economic Commission, led by Mullah Baradar, has approved a plan to transfer water from the Panjshir River to Kabul along with new strategies to boost national revenue. These initiatives are expected to contribute approximately 60 billion Afghanis to the country’s budget annually.
In its recent meeting, the Economic Commission, headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, examined and approved several major infrastructure projects and revenue plans. A significant decision from this meeting was the approval of a report from the Ministry of Water and Energy regarding the water transfer from the Panjshir province to Kabul via pipelines. Following technical evaluations, the Economic Commission instructed the Ministry of Finance to urgently allocate the necessary budget for the survey and design stages of this vital project.
Additionally, the meeting tasked the Ministry of Finance with transferring the allocated budget for water supply to northern Kabul, particularly through Shah and Arous dams, to the state-run water supply company. This measure aims to expedite the survey process and kickstart practical operations to meet the water needs of capital residents.
To ensure quality control and support standardized production, 12 drafts of domestic standards and 11 testing methods were ratified across various sectors. These standards encompass key areas such as repair materials, medical equipment, textiles, plastic materials, and dairy products.
New laboratory methods for assessing the quality of food and agricultural products were also approved to prevent the entry and production of substandard goods in the country’s markets.
