Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president, noted that the Democratic Party’s victory in the United States will not alter Washington’s policies towards Afghanistan, and support for the interim government will continue.
Amrullah Saleh, a former vice president and critic of the interim government, recently stated that the Democratic Party’s success in the U.S. midterm elections will not lead to a shift in the country’s approach to Afghanistan.
In a statement released yesterday, he highlighted the existence of powerful and covert entities that control U.S. foreign policy, asserting that these entities will continue their financial support for the interim government. Saleh stressed that political changes in the U.S. will have no impact on the current situation in Afghanistan.
The former official also claimed that in July 2026, the United States, in collaboration with Kabul officials, spent $1.6 billion on printing Afghan currency in Europe. According to Saleh, this indicates that U.S. support for the interim government persists.
Additionally, Saleh referenced a conversation in 2020 between Donald Trump and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, suggesting that Trump at that time had a deal with a ‘foreign Abdul’ and is now in competition with a ‘local Abdul.’ The term refers to Mullah Baradar and Abdul Rahman Mohammedi, the new senator from Michigan.
In conclusion, he emphasized that there are no new messages from Washington for opposition movements, urging Afghan citizens to concentrate on internal issues rather than awaiting political changes in the United States.
