The Afghanistan U-17 national football team achieved a goalless draw against Turkmenistan in their second match of the Central Asian Championships (CAFA). The game took place in Tashkent, marking the first point for the national team in this tournament.
The young Afghan players faced Turkmenistan after suffering a 2-1 loss to the Kyrgyzstan national team in their opening match on Monday. Determined to secure a victory in the second match, they launched several attacks against their rival’s goal. However, Turkmenistan’s solid defense prevented any scoring, resulting in a final score of 0-0.
In this edition of the Central Asian Championships, U-17 teams from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are participating. The tournament is hosted by Uzbekistan, designed to assess the teams’ preparedness for the upcoming Asian Championship finals.
While securing their first point keeps hopes alive for improving Afghanistan’s position in the standings, the young players need to achieve victories in upcoming matches against formidable opponents like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to rise higher in the rankings. The coaching staff is optimistic that by analyzing weaknesses from the past two games, they will see a more offensive and precise performance from the players in their future contests.
