The Afghanistan U-17 football team achieved a goalless draw against Turkmenistan during their second match in the Central Asian Championship (CAFA) held in Tashkent. This marks the national team’s first point in the tournament.

Attempts to Recover from Initial Loss

In their matchup against Turkmenistan, Afghanistan’s youth team aimed for redemption following a 2-1 defeat against the Kyrgyzstan national team on Monday. Entering the pitch determined to secure a victory, the Afghan players launched numerous attacks against their opponents, but the strong Turkmen defense thwarted their efforts, resulting in a final score of 0-0.

Afghanistan’s Standing in the CAFA Tournament

In this edition of the Central Asian Championship, U-17 national teams from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are competing. Hosted by Uzbekistan, the tournament is conducted periodically to evaluate the teams’ readiness for the upcoming Asian Championship finals.

Looking Ahead to Future Matches

While securing their first point has reignited hopes for improving Afghanistan’s standing in the tournament, the U-17 squad requires victories in future matches against formidable opponents like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to climb higher in the rankings. The coaching staff is optimistic that by addressing weaknesses identified in their previous games, they will see a more aggressive and precise performance from the players in upcoming matches.
