Afghanistan-Uzbekistan Trade Surpasses $2 Billion in 2026

In the first eight months of 2026, trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan exceeded two billion dollars, marking a significant advancement in the economic relations between the two countries.

Trade Reaches Nearly Two Billion Dollars

According to the Uzbekistan Exporters Union, the volume of trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan has surged to over two billion dollars in the first eight months of 2026. This represents a notable increase compared to approximately 800 million dollars in 2024 and 1.85 billion dollars in 2025.

Emphasis on Economic Relationship Development

Union representatives met with business leaders in Balkh Province, highlighting the importance of expanding trade relations and enhancing economic collaboration between the two nations. The Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Investment also stressed the significance of boosting trade with Uzbekistan to meet market needs and foster a competitive atmosphere.

Discrepancies in Trade Statistics

Official entities in both countries provide differing statistics regarding trade volumes. Uzbekistan’s National Statistics Committee reported a trade volume of 1.1 billion dollars with Afghanistan for the first six months of 2026, while Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce cited figures of 1.2 billion dollars for the first seven months of the year.

Signing of Agreements and Trade Expansion

In Cancer month, a business forum between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan took place, attended by traders and investors from both countries, resulting in the signing of 22 trade agreements. Recent meetings have also underscored the necessity of further trade development, increased exports, and the facilitation of transit.

Uzbekistan: A Key Trade Route for Afghanistan

Uzbekistan is recognized as a primary trade route for Afghanistan toward Central Asia. In recent years, both countries have made significant efforts to enhance their economic and transit relations. However, the effectiveness of increased trade with Uzbekistan will be more pronounced when Afghanistan can raise its exports and reduce its reliance on imports.
