UNAMA has reported that there are currently 17,000 individuals detained in Taliban prisons.

The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has disclosed that over 17,000 prisoners are held in Taliban detention facilities, emphasizing the group’s struggle to provide adequate food and healthcare for these detainees.

In a recent report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, UNAMA further noted that the Taliban’s prison administration had aimed to maintain an average of around 10,000 prisoners since mid-2022. However, their prisons now house more than 17,000 individuals.
