Rababa Mohammadi, a renowned Afghan painter and entrepreneur, has been honored with the title of “Artist of the Year 2026” by the Max Gala organization in Toronto. The event attracted numerous artists and saw Mohammadi triumph over 200 nominees, making it to the final three before being crowned the winner.
The “Smile Canada” organization also extended its congratulations to Rababa Mohammadi, noting her participation in its educational program called “Open Shop.” Born in Ghazni Province, Mohammadi has been professionally painting since 2015, creating her works using her mouth due to physical disabilities affecting both her hands and legs.
Mohammadi’s artworks predominantly tell the stories of the pain, challenges, and experiences of Afghan women. She emigrated to Canada following the political upheaval and Taliban resurgence in August 2021, where she now resides as a refugee. Through her art, she illustrates to the world that Afghan women can achieve success despite overwhelming obstacles.
Since its establishment in 2015, the Max Gala organization has recognized and honored inspiring personalities in ten distinct categories annually. This award not only celebrates Rababa Mohammadi but also sends a message to other Afghan artists that talent and creativity know no boundaries.
