The acting Ambassador of Afghanistan in Moscow expressed concern regarding the movements of armed groups and the threat posed by ISIS-Khorasan in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation.
During a security meeting in Moscow, Gol Hassan Hassan, the acting Ambassador of Afghanistan, warned about the activities of armed groups in Pakistan and their support for ISIS-Khorasan. He described these movements as a serious threat to the stability and security of the region.
According to a statement released by the Afghan Embassy in Russia, the ambassador noted that the activities of these elements could facilitate infiltration and terrorist attacks along the Durand line. Hassan also underscored Afghanistan’s crucial role in ensuring stability and fostering economic relations in the region.
He highlighted the successes of the Kabul government in combating drug cultivation and trafficking and in suppressing dangerous groups, asserting that no group should use Afghan territory to threaten the security of other nations. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity for increased cooperation between Kabul and neighboring countries to safeguard borders.
These statements were made in the context of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who recognized Afghanistan’s efforts against ISIS during the Moscow meeting and linked recent successes to the technical and military collaboration between the two countries.
Lavrov also referenced the “Pakistani branch of ISIS,” stating that this terrorist group organizes attacks in both countries. Analysts believe these remarks indicate the concentration of ISIS operational bases within Pakistani territory, complicating the security situation in Afghanistan and the surrounding region.
