Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Interior Minister, has disclosed unofficial statistics indicating that approximately five million Afghan immigrants reside in Iran.
Addressing reporters during a government meeting, Minister Vahidi stated, “Unofficially, we estimate the Afghan national population in Iran to be around five million, though the official figure is lower.”
He emphasized the growing importance of addressing the situation of immigrants and foreign residents, asserting that this issue has become a top priority for all governmental institutions, including the Ministry of Interior.
Vahidi stressed the need to repatriate illegal residents to their home country while also ensuring that those with legal permits are properly documented and regulated.
It’s worth noting that these statistics have emerged amid recent social media discussions regarding the number of Afghan immigrants and asylum seekers present in Iran.
