Guterres: The rise of terrorism in Afghanistan threatens world peace

At the meeting, the UN Secretary-General stressed the fight against terrorism, expressing concern over the spread of terrorism worldwide.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told at a counter-terrorism meeting in Spain that a resurgence of terrorism in Afghanistan and the expansion of ISIL and al-Qaeda in Africa posed a threat to world peace and security.

He stressed that terrorism must be fought on the basis of human rights and the rule of law.

Guterres has said that the threat of terrorism is growing, and its scope is global.
