Ariana News Agency: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Government of Afghanistan has become a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council for a period of three years.

A statement from the State Department said that the Afghan Government had nominated its candidates both for the Presidency of the 76th General Assembly of the UN and also for the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The election resulted in 181 votes in favor of Afghanistan, earning a post as member of the Economic and Social Council for the period 2022 to 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Economic and Social Council is one of the six main pillars and centers of the management of the United Nations Economic and Social Policy.
Given Afghanistan’s political and economic relations with the world, this membership in the United Nations work structures becomes a new stage for Afghanistan and is of great importance.

“We express our gratitude to all the countries that voted for Afghanistan’s membership in the Economic and Social Council,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the candidate of the Republic of Maldives has won the election of the 76th round of the UN General Assembly.
