The Church of England has ended a five-year debate over the church’s position on same-sex marriage after meeting with the archbishop, announcing it will not change its position and only allow marriage between a man and a woman.
Instead of same-sex marriage, bishops are encouraging couples to have a civil marriage ceremony where their union may be blessed in the church, according to Russia Today.
Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell said the move was a real step forward, something fundamental.
