The Taliban’s security command in Farah confirmed that 10 Afghan citizens were killed while attempting to illegally cross into Iran at the Abunasar Farahi port, and two others went missing…

Taliban Confirmation and Disappearance of Two More in Abunasar Farahi Port

The security command of the Taliban government in Farah province announced that 10 Afghan citizens were targeted and killed by Iranian border guards while trying to illegally cross into Iran.

Mohammad Nasim Badri, spokesman for the security command of Farah province, confirmed this news in a statement on X, adding that two other individuals are also missing in this incident.

According to Badri, these individuals were attempting to illegally enter Iranian territory through the Sheikh Abunasar Farahi port. He emphasized that Iranian soldiers opened fire on a number of residents of this province who intended to cross the border illegally, resulting in the death of 10 people.

So far, Iranian officials have not issued an official statement regarding the shooting and the deaths of these Afghan residents.

However, Iranian officials had previously warned that severe measures would be taken against individuals attempting to illegally cross the border into this country.

Roots of Increased Smuggling Migration

Following the cessation of visa issuance for Iran, a large number of residents of the country are attempting to enter that country through smuggling. The illegal exit of Afghan migrants to Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and even Europe is not a new phenomenon; this exit has always been fraught with life-threatening dangers for migrants.

The Taliban caretaker government has also reported in recent months the detention of hundreds of citizens trying to travel illegally to Iran. This government, which tightens the conditions for people with strict laws daily, presents escape as the only option available to them while only addressing the dimensions of incidents after they occur.

Inhumane Policies and Occupation Legacy; Afghan Migrants in the Arms of Death

The heartbreaking event of the killing of 10 Afghan citizens and the disappearance of two others at the Abunasar Farahi border once again showcased the catastrophic dimensions of the forced migration of the Afghan people. This tragedy is not an accidental incident but a direct result of two destructive factors: the repressive policies of the Taliban government and the failed legacy of the 20-year occupation of Afghanistan by the US and its allies.

The Taliban’s Policies; Eradicating Hope

The unprecedented rise in illegal migration statistics, which has claimed victims like these 10 citizens, stems from mismanagement, anti-human rights policies, and widespread poverty imposed by the Taliban government:

Anti-education and women’s rights policies: The prohibition of higher education and work for women, along with the imposition of strict daily laws, has confined and demoralized half of society. These policies not only constitute widespread human rights violations but also paralyze the country’s economy and exacerbate poverty.

Poverty and economic instability: The mismanagement and lack of capacity of the Taliban government have led to the expansion of poverty. The lack of a future and hope for life alongside the absence of stable jobs and income have brought people to a point where they see no alternative but to accept the risks of illegal migration and death at the borders.

Passive response: While the Taliban have tightened the conditions for people with strict laws, they only examine the dimensions of tragedies like this deadly shooting after their occurrence.

Occupation Legacy and Handing the Country to a Puppet Government

Experts believe that the current catastrophe is not limited to the past two years; more than two decades of occupation of Afghanistan by the US and its allies yielded no achievements for the Afghan people other than the plundering of the country’s resources, increased poverty, and displacement.

The prolonged presence of foreign powers severely linked economic and social infrastructures, and instead of building a powerful and independent national government, they merely pursued their own interests.

The peak of this betrayal and disregard for the nation was handing over the country without the consent and vote of the people to a puppet government (the Taliban), which has confronted the people with a future that is vague and perilous. This act has made displacement and escape the only option available to millions of citizens.

These events serve as a serious wake-up call about the fate of people who have become victims of domestic irresponsibility and foreign betrayal and are sending themselves into the arms of death for survival.
