During the inauguration of the telecommunications and information technology exhibition in Kabul, Taliban officials highlighted recent achievements in developing telecommunications infrastructure and advancing digital governance programs across the country. Executives stressed that efforts to modernize administrative systems and enhance technological services are ongoing.

Abdul Salam Hanifi, the Deputy Administrative Chief of the Taliban government’s Prime Minister’s Office, stated during the event that significant advancements have been made in the telecommunications sector recently. He reported that nearly four hundred new telecommunications sites have been installed and activated in underserved and remote areas of the country. Hanifi added that the process of electronic and systematic structuring within administrative frameworks to facilitate public service delivery is being pursued diligently.

Emphasis on Regional Competitiveness and Public Access

Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the planning undertaken aims for Afghanistan to gradually compete technologically with other countries in the region. He claimed that following recent political developments, large sections of rural areas previously deprived of telecommunications services are now covered by communication networks.

Structural Challenges in the Path to Digital Transformation

The officials’ remarks about technological leaps come as the technology and telecommunications sectors in Afghanistan face fundamental obstacles. Experts note that severe infrastructure limitations, economic challenges, poor internet service quality, and unequal access for residents across different provinces are among the main hurdles to achieving full electronic governance in the country.
