Taliban Ministry Confirms Repatriation of Afghan Victims from Italy Fire

The Taliban government’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation has announced the return of the bodies of three Afghan citizens who perished approximately two months ago in a tragic fire in southern Italy. Italian police had previously arrested two Pakistani nationals in connection with this case.

Transfer of Bodies to Kabul

The Ministry confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the remains of the three Afghan citizens were repatriated to Kabul on the 5th and 6th of Asad (late July).

According to the ministry, the victims hailed from the provinces of Balkh, Parwan, and Nangarhar.

Details of the Incident in Southern Italy

About two months ago, the three Afghan citizens, along with a Pakistani national, tragically lost their lives in a vehicle fire in southern Italy.

Following the commencement of investigations, Italian police announced the arrest of two Pakistani supervisors in connection with the incident, and legal proceedings are ongoing.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni referred to the event as a heinous crime, demanding thorough identification and punishment of all those responsible.
