Taliban and Azerbaijan Strengthen Economic Ties with Energy Cooperation Talks

A meeting between the Taliban ambassador in Baku and the deputy head of Azerbaijan’s state oil and gas company highlighted a mutual commitment to expanding economic and energy cooperation. The Azerbaijani official promised to visit Kabul soon to explore joint projects.

In a move reflecting the Taliban’s ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties with regional countries, the group’s ambassador to Azerbaijan met with Kenan Najafov, the deputy head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

During the discussion, both parties addressed the enhancement of trade relations, the increase of oil exports, and the resolution of transportation and transit challenges between their nations.

Najafov underscored Azerbaijan’s eagerness to bolster its economic relations with Afghanistan, stating that SOCAR is prepared to engage in closer collaboration with Kabul in the energy and trade sectors. He expressed hope for an imminent visit to Afghanistan to examine shared opportunities.

This meeting aligns with the Taliban’s economy-focused policy aimed at fostering regional relationships and attracting investment in the energy sector.

Officials from both countries also agreed to continue discussions on implementing joint projects and strengthening oil and gas collaborations.
