Surge in Afghan Migrants Returning Home Amid Deportation Fears from Pakistan

The Taliban government has announced that in just one day, 2,346 Afghan migrants returned from Pakistan, alongside nearly 500 individuals who returned from Iran. This news comes amid ongoing concerns from international organizations regarding the status of Afghan migrants.

Recently, the Taliban government reported that a total of 2,346 Afghan migrants have returned from Pakistan. According to Taliban officials, the majority of these individuals entered Afghanistan via the Torkham border crossing.

Continued Deportations from Pakistan

This announcement follows Pakistan’s initiation of a new phase of deportations for undocumented Afghan migrants, which began on July 10. In recent weeks, tens of thousands of Afghan migrants have been sent back to Afghanistan, and reports indicate increasing pressures on Afghan migrants in various cities across Pakistan.

International Concerns

Some Afghan migrants in Pakistan have previously shared their fears with the media about the threat of arrest, job loss, and forced deportation. Additionally, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) recently reported that Afghan migrants in Pakistan are living under difficult conditions, plagued by the fear of detention and expulsion. The organization has urged the Pakistani government to halt the deportations and to provide support for these individuals.
