Nancy Mace: The Taliban Should Not Be Recognized as a Legitimate Government

Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, took to X to label the Taliban as a terrorist organization, asserting that any attempts to legitimize them are reckless and dangerous.

Legislation to Prevent Recognition of Terrorist Governments

Mace further elaborated that she has introduced legislation in Congress aimed at preventing the recognition of terrorist governments. This bill officially designates the Taliban as a foreign terrorist organization and categorizes the Taliban-led administration as one that supports terrorism. Additionally, it prohibits U.S. federal agencies from recognizing the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Mace stated that this legislation provides a clear and unequivocal line, explicitly indicating that the Taliban will never be recognized by the U.S. as a legitimate government.

Previously, Mace presented this plan in December 2021, but the proposed bill did not advance. According to U.S. laws, any plan or bill that does not receive final approval during a two-year congressional session is automatically withdrawn from consideration, effectively ending its validity.
