Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi, a former finance minister of Afghanistan and a board member of the Afghanistan Trust Fund, stated during an online meeting of Afghan scientists and experts that the funds deposited in Switzerland have accrued $700 million in profit during this period. With this additional profit, the total value of these assets now stands at $4.2 billion.
Ahadi discussed the remaining $3.5 billion of Afghanistan’s currency reserves that have been frozen by the United States, noting that two courts have ruled in favor of the Afghan people so far. He expressed hope that the third and final court will also rule for the release of these assets, ensuring that all of Afghanistan’s national capital remains untouched and secure.
The former economic official emphasized that since the transfer and freezing of these assets, there have been no withdrawals or expenditures from the principal amount or its profits. He stated that the main goal is to protect the monetary base and maintain the country’s economic stability. Once the political and legal situation stabilizes, these funds will be transferred directly to Da Afghanistan Bank.
This statement was made during an online session titled ‘The Economic and Political Situation of Afghanistan: Realities and Future Prospects.’ The meeting brought together several analysts and experts to evaluate strategies for overcoming financial crises and to discuss the country’s economic infrastructure.
