Surge in Detention of Afghan Migrants Marks Turkey as Key Transit Point

Comparison with Other Nationalities

The data reveals that Afghans represent the highest number of detained refugees in Turkey. Following them are refugees from Syria, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Morocco, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan, and Yemen in subsequent rankings. The Directorate has reported that nearly 95,000 undocumented migrants were also apprehended during this period.

Reasons for Detention

Detentions primarily occur due to the lack of residency documentation.
