Taliban Police Chief Allegations: Pakistan Providing Support to Opponents

Abdul Basir Mazhari, the Taliban police chief in Badakhshan, has claimed that Pakistan has provided shelter and training facilities for Taliban opponents in Chitral. He warned that this situation could pose a threat to the security of Badakhshan.

Taliban Accuses Pakistan of Sheltering Opponents

Abdul Basir Mazhari, the Taliban police commander in Badakhshan, stated that Pakistan has established shelters and training camps for armed opponents of the Taliban in the Chitral region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In a recent media briefing, he noted that Badakhshan is the only northern province of Afghanistan sharing a border with Pakistan, allowing Taliban adversaries from northern provinces to gather in Chitral.

Mazhari continued, “Armed opponents who are in conflict with our government in northern provinces have all congregated in Chitral. It is clear that training facilities have been constructed for them there.” He also warned that these opponents might enter Badakhshan through the Shah Salim Pass, posing risks to the security of the province and other northeastern areas of Afghanistan.

Taliban’s Response to Pakistan’s Support for Opponents

Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, has previously emphasized that Pakistan is harboring a number of Taliban opponents and that discussions have taken place regarding the establishment of shelters and training centers for them. He also claimed that in one attack on the Zibak district of Badakhshan, Pakistani forces collaborated with armed opponents, statements that were vehemently denied by the Pakistani information ministry.

Taliban’s Assurance of Security in Badakhshan

In another part of his remarks, Abdul Basir Mazhari highlighted that all armed individuals affiliated with “Juma Khan Fatahi,” the former deputy governor of the Taliban in Zabul, have been disarmed following their unconditional surrender along with five companions. He assured that the current security situation in Badakhshan is under control and there are no issues.
