Taliban and Russia Forge Stronger Economic Ties in Recent Talks

During a meeting between the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Trade and a Russian delegation, the importance of strengthening trade and economic relations between Afghanistan and Russia was emphasized. Minister Aziz mentioned Kabul’s plans to establish a trade center.

Enhancing Trade Relations Between Afghanistan and Russia

Nuruddin Aziz, the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Trade, highlighted the need to expand commercial and economic ties with Russia during a session with a delegation of Russian traders and officials. This meeting included Nikita Kurnienko, the Minister of International and Interregional Cooperation from Chelyabinsk, and his accompanying team.

In their discussions, the two sides explored ways to enhance economic collaboration, coordinate between traders from both nations, facilitate the export of Afghan products to Chelyabinsk, and import machinery and modern technologies from Russia to Afghanistan. Aziz also pointed out the prospects of increasing Afghan exports to the Russian market and stated that Kabul is prepared to create a center for the distribution of Russian products within Afghanistan, as well as a market for Afghan goods in Chelyabinsk.

Invitation for Afghan Traders to Collaborate

The Russian minister expressed support for the increasing trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Chelyabinsk, inviting the Taliban delegation, particularly representatives from the private sector, to visit the region to foster further cooperation. This invitation was positively received by the Taliban’s Minister of Industry.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has underscored the significance of these economic relations in an official statement. Notably, Russia was the first country to recognize the Taliban regime and has been making efforts in recent years to enhance its trade relations with Afghanistan and other regional countries.
