Taliban Aims to Strengthen Economic Ties with Russia During Recent Trade Talks

During a recent meeting between the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Trade and a Russian delegation, there was a strong emphasis on enhancing trade and economic relations between Afghanistan and Russia. Noreddin Azizi also announced plans for establishing a trade center in Kabul.

Strengthening Trade Relations Between Afghanistan and Russia

Noreddin Azizi, the Minister of Industry and Trade for the Taliban government, highlighted the importance of expanding economic ties during a session with Russian traders and officials. The meeting was attended by Nikita Korniyenko, the Minister for International and Interregional Cooperation of Chelyabinsk, along with his associates.

During the discussions, both parties explored ways to bolster economic collaboration, facilitate coordination among traders from the two nations, export Afghan goods to Chelyabinsk, and import machinery and modern technologies from Russia to Afghanistan. Azizi also mentioned the prospects for increasing Afghan exports to the Russian market, stating that Kabul is ready to establish a center for displaying Russian products in Afghanistan while creating a marketplace for Afghan goods in Chelyabinsk.

Encouraging Afghan Traders to Foster Business Cooperation

The Russian minister welcomed the prospect of increased trade between Afghanistan and Chelyabinsk, extending an invitation to the Taliban delegation, particularly representatives from the private sector, to visit the region to enhance cooperation. This invitation was met favorably by the Taliban’s Minister of Industry.

The Taliban Ministry of Industry and Trade, in a statement, underscored the significance of these economic relationships. It is noteworthy that Russia was the first country to officially recognize the Taliban government and has been actively seeking to strengthen trade relations with Afghanistan and other nations in the region in recent years.
